The remarkable aspect of Playa Ocotal lies in its ability to blend such vibrant energy with abundant sunshine, a pleasant climate, and inviting warm waters of the azure sea. In fact, during the dry season (December-April), this enchanting beach receives a generous nine hours of sunlight each day. Playa Ocotal was awarded the Blue Flag in recognization of its cleanliness and safety. Under the Blue Flag Ecology Program, the Costa Rican beaches are evaluated on a strict criterion. The beaches are assessed on water quality of the ocean and the drinking water, waste disposal, sanitary facilities, signage, tourist safety, environmental education and involvement of the community in beach maintenance. Only beaches with a 90% score succeed in acquiring a distinction and receiving the Blue Flag. Beaches awarded the Blue Flag are then monitored on monthly basis for sustained maintenance.
Weather: Playa Ocotal is on the ‘Gold Coast’, with a dry season between November and April, the rainy season brings afternoon showers, but generally they can be planned around and enjoyed.

Sunsets and Dark skies:
An idea sunset is free of distractions. These are uncrowded beaches. And without the street lamps and businesses of a more crowded local, our night skies are perfect for stargazing.
To help you enjoy the beach, the house has a number of ‘beachables’ that can be brought to and from the beach. These include Beach chairs, coolers, towels and a bluetooth speaker. We are adding snorkeling gear and a beach cart shortly.
The beach has a nice little play area on the North end. Swings and climbing bars for the little ones. This is just below the Ocotal Beach Club which offers affordable day and week passes to guests.

Playa Ocotal is mostly quiet area far from the noise and rush of the busier Coco, perfect if you would rather hear the haunting calls of howler monkeys and birds, but still close enough that a short drive gets you to Coco, and the expanded dining, and beach night life you can enjoy there.
